However, only about 9 % of the plastic is recycled, and many species cannot be converted into new products. As a result, the vast majority ends in the burials of the waste or burned.
Plastic also leaks into the environment in the form of delicate plastic, located in the most remote areas on the planet, air and inside human bodies.
“Unlike paper, glass, steel and aluminum, the complex complex plastic materials cannot be recycled easily”, the report warns. “It is now clear that the world will not be able to get out of the plastic pollution crisis through recycling. Control of the plastic crisis will require continuous research, as well as science -based interventions – laws, policies, monitoring, inspection, incentives and innovations.”
Friction
Production reduction was the main point of deviation in uninterrupted global negotiations on the plastic that occurred in December in South Korea. Although production reduces in raising many problems – including whether this means preventing new factories – the main obstacle is simply achieving consensus on the reduction.
Last year, while more than 100 governments supported to reduce production, other countries prevented this measure. Among them, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran and China.
