Boeing's crewed mission to space remains a concern. According to NASA, astronauts on the Starliner may not return from the International Space Station (ISS) until 2025. The spacecraft has been plagued by technical problems since before launch, which continued after astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams reached space.

The Starliner mission began in June and was initially expected to last only eight days, but has now lasted months. Faced with this problem, NASA is exploring the possibility of using Crew Dragon, from Elon Musk’s SpaceX, to return the astronauts safely to Earth.

Space X is a major competitor to Boeing, which will use the mission to prove it is worthy of competing with Musk’s space technology giant. Boeing has committed to an unmanned test flight if NASA decides to change the mission.

Remember the path of the Starliner manned mission

The first unmanned test flight of Starliner was scheduled for 2019, but was delayed by a software glitch. The second attempt failed due to a problem with the fuel valves. The manned capsule was not launched until three attempts, in June of this year.

On June 7, 2024, astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams arrived at the International Space Station to a festive atmosphere.. To this day, astronauts are still “trapped” in space. The gravity of the situation raises questions about the company's readiness for this new phase of space exploration, and puts Boeing behind SpaceX in the space mission race.
