Paradox decided to cancel Life by You, which was seen as a potential competitor to The Sims in the life simulation genre. After three postponements, the company decided to re-evaluate the project and ended up scrapping it, explained CEO Matthias Lilja.

In a statement issued on the company’s forum, he explained the following:

Unfortunately, we have decided to cancel the release of the long-awaited life simulator “Life by You”. This was an extremely difficult decision to make and a clear failure on Paradox's part to meet our and the community's expectations. We realize this raises some big questions; Here we hope to shed at least some light on why we chose to cancel, rather than postpone, as we previously reported.

The CEO explained that Life by You has been in development for a long time. According to him, the entire project generated tremendous excitement and the potential he saw in it was high.

However, with each postponement, many improvements had to be made, and since they did not reach the required quality, a final decision had to be made.
