Six Venezuelan dissidents are taking shelter in the Argentine embassy in Caracas, sources at Casa Rosada, the official residence of the Argentine president, confirmed to the Infobae news site.

According to the portal, which did not specify its sources, President Javier Miley and Chancellor Diana Mondino “accepted the entry of the six persecuted men into the diplomatic representation in Venezuela, and from that moment on – under international laws – they were under asylum from Venezuela.” Argentina.”

Recently, other Argentine media, such as the newspaper Clarín, published information about the presence of Venezuelan dissidents holding preventive arrest orders in the Argentine diplomatic representation in Venezuela.

The Infobay portal identified five of these opponents: Pedro Urocherto, Magali Meda, Humberto Villalobos, Claudia Masero, and Omar Gonzalez, but did not reveal the name of the sixth person.

The entry of opponents into the embassy came gradually, starting last week.

Relations between Argentina and Venezuela, which were close during the terms of Peronists Néstor Kirchner (2003-2007) and Cristina Kirchner (2007-2015), have weakened since Miley took office at Casa Rosada in December last year. Miley is a harsh critic of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, a Chavista.

The Argentine government was one of the signatory countries, along with the governments of Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay, to a statement in which it expressed its concern about the impossibility of Corina Llores, the opposition candidate in the Democratic Unionist Program, winning the presidency. To register his candidacy in the elections scheduled for July 28, where Maduro will seek re-election for a new term.
