Last Wednesday (24), WhatsApp announced the launch of the screen sharing option during video calls. The application informed users through messages containing an explanatory video and two brief paragraphs about this new function.

“It's as if you're in the same room, no matter the distance,” WhatsApp says in the message sent to users. The video shows the icon for the new function, as well as the notification that appears in the group when it is activated.

As shown in the video, simply tap a button to share your screen in a video call, either with one person or in a group. When activated, windows containing the faces of the people participating in the call are organized at the top of the shared screen.

While introducing new features, WhatsApp is experimenting with an additional approach for users to share files with each other, especially when they are in close proximity to each other. This feature is similar to AirDrop between Apple devices and Quick Sharing on Android.

As shown in the screenshots above, both users will need to access a specific section to send or receive files. Apparently, you will need to shake the device to request file sharing.

The innovative file sharing feature was spotted by WABetaInfo during beta testing of the WhatsApp Android app. According to the site, file transfers will be protected through end-to-end encryption, ensuring information security. In addition, the user's phone number will remain hidden from those who are not part of his contacts.

This new functionality appeared in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, 2.24.2.20, available on Play Store, Google's app store. As of now, there is no information about the official launch date for this function.
