Canada's Immigration Plan for 2024-2026 was recently released on the official website of the federal Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). According to the document, Canada plans to receive about 500,000 immigrants annually, which represents the highest number in the country's history.
In the period 2024-2026, Canada intends to increase the number of immigrants accepted. If in 2023 IRCC plans to grant residency to 465,000 foreigners, in 2024 this number will increase to 485,000, and in 2025 and 2026, the number of new permanent residents is expected to reach 500,000 annually. The country's immigration goals include boosting the economy, reuniting families and helping refugees.
As for immigrant categories, the plan gives priority to highly qualified specialists, family members of permanent residents of Canada and refugees. It is worth noting that according to the plan, the number of French-speaking immigrants will increase significantly over the next two years, as Canada plans to receive 36,000 French-speaking expatriates in 2026, compared to 26,100 in 2024.
