The wealth of the world's 500 richest people rose from US$1.4 trillion to US$1.5 trillion (about R$7.3 trillion) between 2022 and 2023, according to a Bloomberg survey.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the richest man in the world is Elon Musk, owner of the electric car manufacturers Tesla and X (formerly Twitter). His wealth, estimated at $229 billion, increased by $92 billion in one year.

Frenchman Bernard Arnault, president and CEO of the luxury empire LVMH, which owns the Louis Vuitton brand, occupies second place. Arnault has a net worth of US$179 billion.

Data were collected until Saturday, December 30th. The remaining positions at the top of the list are held by entrepreneurs in the technology sector. Third place went to Jeff Bezos ($177 billion), founder of Amazon. He was followed by Bill Gates ($141 billion) from Microsoft, and Steve Ballmer ($131 billion), who led the company between 1998 and 2014.
