247 – Javier Miley’s administration is trying, through diplomatic contacts, to unfreeze the $5 billion swap agreement that China concluded with the government of Alberto Fernandez, according to the Wall Street Journal. Page 12.
Last Sunday, Foreign Minister Diana Mondino met with Chinese envoy Wu Weihua. They discussed the swap agreement, while also noting Argentina’s desire to maintain a trade relationship with the Communist government.
Miley also sent a letter to Chinese President Xi Jinping, requesting his support to accelerate the procedure and ensure the necessary resources to meet urgent financial obligations to the International Monetary Fund.
The moves come after China warned last month that it would be a “big mistake” for Argentina to cut ties with “big countries like Brazil and China,” a possibility Miley suggested during the election campaign.
