A Brazilian woman talks about living in a city threatened by a volcano in Iceland: “Earthquakes every 3 minutes.”

Fantastico was the only Brazilian team allowed to enter Grindavik, Iceland, after a dangerous volcano was awakened, after 800 years. The city was divided into two halves due to earthquakes that have not stopped yet.

Reporters Felipe Santana and Alex Carvalho met a Brazilian woman who was pregnant and had to leave her home.

“The earthquakes were, I don’t know, every five minutes. Every three minutes. They didn’t stop. They didn’t stop,” says Jessica, a pregnant Brazilian about to give birth.

Jessica and her husband, Isaac, live in Grindavik, Iceland, a city that had to be emptied due to a volcano. At the luxury Blue Lagoon resort, she made a living in the countryside, starting out as a cleaner until she became a chef. But when he bought the house four years ago, he never imagined he would go through what he is experiencing now: tragedy An eruption is imminent.

“taught us [que tinha o vulcão]“But after 800 years of a dormant volcano in this area, we never thought it would erupt when we decided to buy a house there in Grindavik.”

Fishing city It has a population of 3 thousand people and is located in the southeast of the country. Next door is an inactive volcano FrajadasviyalBut as soon as Jessica moved, the giant woke up.

“This is the most amazing thing in my life. It’s so hot in here,” she said in a video.

The volcano has erupted every year since she moved, but always in a controlled manner and without lava flowing into the city. But two weeks ago the situation changed. “People started feeling kicks from inside the ground,” says the Brazilian.

“Guys, it’s an earthquake. It doesn’t stop. We were packing things, taking everything to leave. We’re putting everything in the car now. We’re leaving,” the Brazilian continues, crying.

Now, Jessica doesn’t know if and when she will be able to return home. She and Isak are staying in a borrowed apartment in Iceland’s capital.

He says: “Now I feel like crying, because I can’t see things. (…) I want to go home.”

The Brazilian talks about feeling uncertain. “We want the volcano to erupt now, because even if it destroys our house, at least we know what will happen. Now, at this moment, we are living in limbo,” he explains.

In the center of the city, it is possible to see a large hole that has opened up on the main road. Through it, smoke emerges from the hot water.

The city could explode at any moment, but the authorities confirmed that they can predict it at least 30 minutes in advance.

Another hole cut the flowerbed in half and it was not even possible to see the bottom. The fissure runs through the entire city. It hit a yard and went through the entire house.

    Scientific explanation for this phenomenon

The interior of the Earth is a big ball of fire. Tectonic plates are large blocks of rock that make up the Earth’s crust and Iceland is an island located exactly between two of these plates that are very slowly moving away from each other all the time.

In Iceland, you can see why there are so many volcanoes in the area. The rift shows the division between the European continental tectonic plate and the North American continental plate. And they keep walking away.

The Icelandic Meteorological Center has discovered that there is a pulsating vein of lava toward the surface extending across the entire Reykjanes Peninsula, where Grindavik is located. This movement is what makes the earth shake and rise. In other words, this time, the lava should not spray from the volcano cone, but in the form of a large fissure.

Because of this volcanic activity, water comes out of the ground and boils in many places in Iceland. However, with strong winds and cold, it evaporates as soon as it comes into contact with the air.
