WhatsApp is one of the most used applications by Brazilians and has recently received an update that responds to long-standing user requests: it has increased the capacity of participants in a single call to up to 32 people.
Previously, the limit for group calls was 15 participants. However, another 16 people were allowed to be added, one by one, with the call already in place.
Now, Meta, the company responsible for the app, wants to simplify the procedure and allow 32 people to connect from the beginning. Best for those who want to make an urgent family announcement or start a meeting with multiple representatives at once.
New changes
Another change announced is the ability to create a voice chat available for groups with up to 128 members. A voice chat is different from a group call because in a call all participants in the group receive an on-screen notification, similar to what happens when you receive a traditional call. The screen is also locked until the user decides whether he wants to join the conference call or not.

In voice chat, the user will receive a simple notification, without locking the screen. Chat will also allow for easier handling of other smartphone applications, unlike group calls. This tool is already popular in other apps like Discord and X, formerly Twitter, where participants can send audio messages or participate just by listening to others.
Meta announced the launch of the IOS and Android operating systems in the coming weeks, but has not yet announced a specific date for the availability of the update. So far, only a few users who are eligible for WhatsApp Beta for Android have had prior access to the update.
