    In a statement sent to the press on Tuesday (24), Meta announced that the WhatsApp messaging application will no longer work on old mobile phones. The functionality will be broken on Android 4.1 systems, which have not received updates from manufacturers since 2015.

    According to the supplier, this outage is necessary to ensure the security and stability of the application. Because older operating systems no longer receive updates containing the latest security fixes, leaving users vulnerable to potential cyberattacks.

    Some models running Android 4.1 have already been notified about the discontinuation of support. Users who receive the notification will have 30 days to update the operating system or purchase a new device.
