The fifth installment in the Jurassic Park series is said to have cost more than $500 million. On Netflix, you can now see if the influence investment has paid off.
As the fifth installment in the series, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom had to find new paths among the tracks that had done so well in 2018. Those tracks were fiery on one hand and scary on the other. Because the dinosaur blockbuster tells a disaster drama in the first half and turns into a horror movie in the second. Over $500 million and a pile of cat litter were used in the dinosaur show
fallen kingdom Continues the story of Jurassic World (2015) – which in turn revived the Jurassic Park series – starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Three years after the events of the last film, the Islar Nublar dinosaurs are threatened by a volcanic eruption. Claire (Howard) and Owen (Pratt) launch a dangerous rescue operation.
The volcano, which actually originated in Michael Crichton’s first novel, is already erupting. But to represent the fiery menace, the film crew didn’t just resort to computer effects.
In one scene in the first half of the movie, Claire is threatened by a dinosaur and an incoming block of lava. CGI was used in the final version of Lava. To create the most realistic lighting effects possible, the cat litter was also set on fire. In an interview with The Thrillist, visual effects supervisor David Vickery explained the usage as follows:
“We had a crack in the ceiling that was filled with cat poop soaked in some sort of flammable liquid. There were 12 different nozzles that could throw cat poop in different places, which gave us these huge, beautiful streams of liquid fire falling from the ceiling. The ceiling. It also gave us lighting. Great interactivity and a very interesting smoky atmosphere.”

According to Universal studio tax returns, a total of $516 million was invested in the sequel (via Forbes). Unfortunately, we don’t know how much of that amount was invested in cat litter.
