After traveling around the country telling the most exotic stories with “Me Leva, Brasil,” Maurício Kubrusly left São Paulo to live in Serra Grande, on the southern coast of Bahia, 43 km from Ilhéus. Along with his wife, Beatrice Goulart, and their dog, Shiva, the new town has been good for the journalist, who was diagnosed a few years ago with temporal dementia (FTD) and now lives with complications from the disease, such as memory loss.

The journalist who succeeded in the painting “Me Leva, Brasil”, today lives with frontotemporal dementia, which caused him to lose his memory

    – After Mauricio came here, he had a good improvement. It was good for him. It’s much calmer now – reveals the barber Dó, who has been cutting the journalist’s hair for a year: – He didn’t say much, but made it clear that he didn’t like to reduce the length of the hair too much (laughs).

In his new routine, Mauricio scheduled morning walks in Praia do Sarge. On social networks there are still records of meetings with friends, of singing on the beach (such as a video in which he appears happy applauding tourists singing Gilberto Gil) and private compliments in local restaurants. The atmosphere makes everyone identify there, in a manifestation of collective affection for the journalist.

    — I recognized him when Mauricio moved here, but not everyone knew who he was. However, everyone knows each other. We are in a quiet village. And people are careful with him on the street, – explains the hairdresser.

“Maurício Kubrusly left São Paulo to immerse himself in nature, which was a good remedy to deal with Fronto Temporal Dementia (FTD), with which he was diagnosed a few years ago. The memory is lost but, as he always says, “his immense passion for life and for the Brazilian people remains” , says the text part of the tribute program.

The anniversary made fans turn to the journalist’s social networks with affectionate messages.

One follower wrote: “Mauricio has imprinted my life with his unique brand reporting. I miss you! All the best to you and your family.” “Integrity, smart guy, we miss him so much on TV,” said one fan. Another netizen commented: “Great Mauricio! Nature is great medicine. Thank you for bringing your intelligence to Brazil through Fantástico. Saúde.” Another praises “Mauricio, I always watched you as a girl and a teenager – and fell in love with journalism because of you! A unique professional! I always reflected myself in the poetic way in which I did the profession! Thank you very much.” .

Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is associated with atrophy in the frontal and temporal regions of the brain. The diagnosed patient may exhibit behavioral changes, becoming more aggressive, for example, as well as having speech difficulties. Frontotemporal dementia is often preceded by aphasia, a medical condition that can affect a person’s ability to speak, write, and understand language, both verbally and in writing.
