The Amazon fund has already received about R$3.4 billion since its inception in 2009. The reserve is controlled by border (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) It aims to finance environmental conservation activities.
The initiative is funded by donations. The majority of the funds (93.8%) came from Norway. Germany (5.7%) and Petrobras (0.5%) are the other two largest donors, but in much smaller proportions than the Norwegian government. These numbers only go back from 2009 to 2018. The Amazon fund stood steadily throughout the former president’s administration Jair Bolsonaro (PL), which deactivated the Cofa (Steering Committee for the Amazon Fund).

2017 was the year with the largest amount of payments since the creation of the Amazon fund, at R$224 million. It totaled R$90 million in 2022, the lowest cash flow in 9 years.
Most of the disbursed funds (R$775 million) were allocated to projects covering more than one state. Parra has received the largest single capital from the fund: R$128 million.

Lula in Belem
