The practice of begging proved increasingly lucrative.

In Mumbai, India, an unusual story is gaining attention. Bharat Jain, a person who finds himself on the streets, has turned begging into a lucrative and unexpected job.

Local media reported that Jain had amassed an impressive $890,708 (R$4,261,715.34) along his journey through the tech and financial streets of the city. He is believed to be able to secure a daily income of about US$30 (R$150) per day or US$904 (R$4,320) per month.

Bharat grew up in poverty and without formal education, and in begging he found a way to support his family and overcome the hardships he faced. Today, he owns a luxury two-bedroom apartment, as well as owning two stores that earn him an additional $363 (R$1,730) monthly income through rent. With this income, Bharat is able to send his children to a convent school, providing them with opportunities that he himself did not have.

Despite his family’s pleas for him to abandon the practice, Bharat continues to devote 10 to 12 hours a day to begging, frequenting strategic locations such as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station and the Azad Maidan sports stadium.
