Wines of Portugal: The sector’s biggest event in Brazil starts this Friday at the Jockey Club, in Jávea
This Friday (9), in Rio de Janeiro, the tenth edition of the event “Wine from Portugal“, which is considered the largest event of the sector in Brazil.
“It’s been 10 years, hasn’t it? A year that we decided to call the Year of the Great Meetings because during these 10 years we have all been able to bring producers and winemakers together to prove, together with consumers, what is unique in a consumer event in the world,” says event curator, Simone Duarte.
The idea is for the public to know, taste and understand Portuguese wines. In the hall, people will be able to talk directly with more than 80 producers and Taste over 790 wines.
“It is very important to be side by side with the consumer, to know what they think of the wine, what is their relationship to our wine,” says Colinas do Ouro wine scientist Marta Galamba.
The program also includes a 30-person-only tasting room. In it, world-famous sommeliers will share a very special selection of wines with the audience. Argentinian Cecilia Aldaz is one of them.
“On Sunday, we’ll do a pairing with the amazing chef Andressa Cabral. She’ll prepare Brazilian food and we’ll pair it with Lisbon wines. Says the sommelier.
The space will also feature a wine bar, wine and gastronomy shops and kiosks with interactive activities, as well as a social area with free admission, where talk shows with Brazilian personalities, critics, producers and Portuguese winemakers will be promoted.
The event, organized by the newspapers O Globo, Valor Econômico and the Portuguese newspaper Público, continues until Sunday (11) at the Jockey Club of Brazil, in Javea, in the southern district of Rio. Tickets can be purchased via location.
“As a Brazilian I can understand the evolution of knowledge about Portuguese wines and grape varieties. Today, Brazilians have access to a range of wines from different regions of Portugal and they can recognize that this wine has quality, that this wine suits the Brazilian taste,” says the wine producer at Quinta Alta, Fernanda Zuccaro.
