    Nicolás Maduro arrives in Brazil

    The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, arrived in Brazil last Sunday night (28) to meet with Lula (Workers’ Party) on Monday and for the South American Leaders Summit. (see video above).

    According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 11 presidents will be present at the event to be held on Tuesday, in Brasilia.

    “I am grateful for the warm welcome we have received in Brasília, the capital of the Federative Republic of Brazil. In the next few hours we will set out a diplomatic agenda that will promote the necessary union of the peoples of our continent. Attention!” Maduro posted on social networks.

    The ministry said in a note that the two presidents should discuss developments in the process of normalizing bilateral relations – which began on the first of last January – including the reopening of relevant embassies and consular sectors and the recent appointment of Venezuela’s ambassador to Brazil. .

    Last week, Lula received the credentials of the new ambassador of the Nicolas Maduro regime, from Venezuela, to Brazil, Manuel Vicente Fadel Aquino. The document is a formality that marks the beginning of the diplomat’s work in Brazil. The ambassador assumes the position after handing over the documents to the government of the country in which he will work.

    In March 2020, Brazil withdrew its diplomats working at the Brazilian Embassy in Venezuela, in the capital, Caracas. The government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has not recognized Maduro’s government.

    “At the meeting, the two representatives should study the priority topics to deepen the dialogue in all areas of the relationship. In this sense, the two presidents will touch on the results of the recent multidisciplinary mission to the Venezuelan capital, which was organized by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency which had representatives from more than twenty Brazilian government agencies. Particular attention will be given to border issues, with an emphasis on the protection of the populations residing in this area, including the Yanomami peoples.This was stated in a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    The summit is in Brasilia

    The purpose of the meeting, the ministry says, is to promote “frank” dialogue between all countries, identify “common denominators”, discuss the region’s views and “reactivate the South American cooperation agenda in key areas”.

    According to Itamarati, the following heads of government will attend:

    • from Argentina;
    • from Bolivia;
    • from Chile;
    • from Colombia;
    • from Ecuador;
    • from Guyana;
    • from French Guiana;
    • from Paraguay;
    • from Suriname;
    • from Uruguay;
    • And from Venezuela

    Only the President of Peru, Dina Boulwart, will not be in attendance. According to Ambassador Gisela Padovan, Itamaraty’s secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, the country should send a representative.
