The American company tried to find success in Brazil, but left the country even before the pandemic hit

Created in the 1960s, in the city of Columbus in the United States, the restaurant Wendy It has had meteoric growth in North America. There, fast food is in conflict with Burger King and McDonald’s, two of the major brands in the field.

In 2016, more than five decades after its founding, the restaurant finally made its way to Brazil, opening some units in shopping malls in São Paulo. However, the group’s stay in the country did not last long and the company was forced to close its doors.

Shortly before the pandemic hit, in January 2020, Wendy’s exited the official state. At the time, there was no exact explanation for the end of this wonderful fast food here, but there was no shortage of speculations among experts on the subject. Competition may, of course, be one of the reasons.

While hugely popular in the United States, here in Brazil the group couldn’t compete with McDonald’s and Burger King, which serve the same kind of meals: French fries, hamburgers, soft drinks, nuggets, and ice cream, all together in the same combo.

Five units were opened during these four years of operation, but all of them were closed. At the time, Wendy Consulting stated that, in the future, it hopes to return to fast food, which it sees as one of the most promising markets in the world. But this time with a new strategy.
