1. Cream
Cream-colored cats have a pastel or pale yellow coat. This color is caused by the presence of a recessive gene that causes the production of little pheomelanin, which is responsible for yellow pigmentation.
2. Lilac
Lilac cats are common in breeds such as the Siamese, Balinese, and Persian. Here, the tone is more pronounced in the presence of gloss. It is a color caused by the presence of a pair of special genes – homozygous and recessive.
3. Gray
The all-gray cat with blue undertones is most common in Russia and Siberia throughout the world. More present in the Russian blue breed, these cats can also have a contrast colour. The gray-blue color is due to the presence of a recessive gene that suppresses the production of eumelanin, which is responsible for black or brown pigmentation.
4. Chocolate
The chocolate hue is midway between black and brown, forming a darker brown colour. This is due to the position of melanin on the X chromosome, which makes the rare type of color concentrated in cats.
5. Chinchilla
Chinchilla cats have hairline fade. At the root, they have their normal color – black or piebald – but in length they turn white. Chinchilla cats appear in the Persian and Maine Coon breeds and are so because they are homozygous and recessive on some pairs of chromosomes.
6. Turtle shell
The coat is a mixture of black and orange tones, resembling a turtle’s shell. Females are more likely to have this color because the mutation is caused by having two X chromosomes.
7. Albino
Albino cats are completely white, and not just in their fur. The ears, nose and paws are equally white or pink. Here, there is no melanin production, so white cats are the rarest of all because they have two recessive genes.
