Between 300 and 400 Burger King restaurants are expected to close by the end of 2023, with underperforming stores being the first to close over the coming months. The performance of each franchise will depend solely on the factors surrounding the location, Raees reported Brands International Restaurant (RBI), the company that coordinates Burger King.

Is McDonald’s losing a major competitor, or is this situation normal? It looks a little disturbing!

When these franchises fail to keep up with the company’s flagship development, which is gigantic, they are promptly thrown out of business. This means that they need to restructure the stores and eliminate those that are not making a profit. That perspective comes from not-dedicated-enough operators, said RBI Chief Patrick Doyle.

“There will always be a non-dedicated minority of enthusiastic operators, and that’s okay. […] Let’s work with them to leave the system and move on to do something else. There is simply no room for franchisors who are unwilling or unable to work hard to operate better-than-average restaurants for the long term.”

The latest records show that Burger King consistently closes about 200 stores a year, so the 300-400 range is significantly high. There aren’t yet certain numbers on how many restaurants will be affected by the decision, said Josh Kobza, the company’s CEO, but they will certainly close stores that produce less than that as a priority.

Another piece of information that seems somewhat alarming is two Burger King franchises that have filed for bankruptcy, Tom’s King and Meridian Restaurant Unlimited. Meridian alone will close about 27 restaurants in the United States.

For now, Brazilians can rest assured! Information includes franchises in Michigan, Wyoming, Utah, North Dakota, Nebraska, Montana and Minnesota.
