last week, movieDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among the Rebelshas arrived in theaters worldwide, though the premiere is scheduled for April 13. Fans who have been to theaters can check out the feature in advance.

The film was a pleasant surprise for fans of RPGs, and pleased not only the general public, but also critics. As of this writing, it has a 7.6/10 on IMDb and a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rumor has it that due to the success of the feature, Paramount Pictures, its producer, is already programming sequels. However, there is still no confirmation whether it will be in the form of a movie or a series.

But amid all this success, there are details that have some fans confused. Anyone who’s gone to see the movie or seen one of the trailers has noticed brief appearances of the iconic characters from “Dragon Cave“.

Some people wonder if both works take place in the same universe. After all, “Honor Among the Rebels” and “Cave of the Dragon” are both based on the same product, the “Dungeons & Dragons” tabletop RPG. For those looking for an answer to this question, it’s very simple: no.

Those who have followed the movie have seen that at one point, we have characters from the feature side-by-side with characters from the cartoon, even though we don’t interact directly. What happens is that they are not cartoon characters, just people from this universe wearing the same clothes as them. Thus, this is a nod and tribute to the classics.

The two works are adaptations of Dungeons & Dragons, the original name of Caverna do Dragão, modified in the Brazilian version. But that doesn’t mean they happen in the same universe. Logically, they both use details, settings, and names from the RPG, but tell their own stories in their own universes.

Saying that the two productions take place in the same universe basically means that all of the stories told in Systems and D&D belong to the same reality.

As is the purpose of all tabletop RPGs, the goal is to allow players and admins to create their own stories in their worlds, with complete creative freedom. This is a feature that made the game as successful as it is today and has allowed the genre to be loved by many.
