In a meeting held in Lausanne, Switzerland, with the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bachrepresentative delegation Mexico She handed in a letter showing interest in hosting the Olympic Games in 2036 or 2040.
The delegation included the President of the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM), Jose Alcala, and the country’s Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard.
The host country hosted the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, also hosted the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara and will still have ten matches for the 2026 World Cup, which is being hosted by Canada and the United States.
In the second half of last year, the country submitted a candidacy for 2036. In addition, Indonesia, Qatar, India, Egypt, Turkey (Istanbul) and the United Kingdom (London) have already expressed interest.
At the meeting, Ebrard told Bach that “the initiative is motivated by the historical moment that Mexico is experiencing, in which the greatest values of its people are being revealed and society is becoming more involved”. In response, the IOC president thanked Mexico for its interest in hosting the Games in the future.

The North American country did not specify which city would be a candidate, but stressed that many of its municipalities have the infrastructure for this. The project to have an Olympic copy comes again in 100 years of Olympic movement in the country.
