Screenwriters take on the task of developing a story (or plot) by creating characters for whom they think of their lines and all of their other characteristics, even the most specific ones, as well as the intonations of their voice.

For many years, this creation process relied solely on the screenwriter’s baggage to be developed. However, thanks to technology and the development of artificial intelligence (AI), this may soon change.

The idea comes directly from the United States Writers Guild (WGA, originally abbreviated), which wants to use programs like ChatGPT in scripts to speed up their creation.

    Artificial Intelligence: A Screenwriter’s Tool

According to the WGA, allowing a screenwriter to use AI would be a great opportunity to help with this creative process. However, once the idea was brought to the public, many professionals in the field began to fear losing their current job.

However, the US Screenwriters Guild recently spoke out and explained that accepting the use of artificial intelligence to produce scripts would not affect their jobs, because the original idea was just to use software, such as ChatGPT, to act as a tool, just like a pencil helps with writing time.

In addition, screenwriters may not be interested in knowing the credit for their efforts, because even if they use AI as a working tool, they will still receive the title of responsible writers.

The same applies to situations where the AI produces a script and the professional improves it and converts it into a new version. In this case, he is still credited with developing the script.

Despite this, there was no comment on the moment when the AI, on its own, would write a complete text, without having to polish or optimize it. WGA’s sole purpose is to prevent complications with script credits.

As such, it remains unclear if the Alliance of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP), the company responsible for representing US studios, will fully embrace this new idea.

After all, many people think that all the content produced by artificial intelligence is not considered literary art.
