The family discovers the dog’s true breed two years after the purchase. A Chinese family bought a dog a few years ago, thinking it was a Tibetan Mastiff. However, after only two years of living with the animal, they discovered it was actually another breed. The case happened in 2018, in Yunnan Province, but recently it went viral on the Internet.

The dog that wasn’t really a dog

The animal the family thought was a simple dog was actually a wild bear. According to the American New York Post, the Chinese Su Yun, who lives in a small village on the outskirts of Kunming, bought the animal in 2016 and for two years did not suspect that the animal was not a puppy.

The family stayed with the animal for two years, until they realized it was growing a lot. “The older he gets, the more he looks like a bear,” Su Yun told Chinese state television channel CGTN.

In 2018, the bear was already over 100kg in weight and showed no signs of stunting. Furthermore, the “dog” had an insatiable appetite of the sort that devoured a can of fruit and two buckets of pasta every day. In addition to the fact that the animal could walk upright, leaning on its hind legs, all this began to attract the attention of the family.

    What happened to the animal?

The family took the animal to the authorities, and an animal rescue team was able to determine that it was not a Tibetan mastiff, but an Asian black bear, a species classified as vulnerable and endangered.
