A security camera recorded the moment a man attacked a woman while she was training in the gym where she lives, in Florida, United States.

Nashali Alma, 24, started hitting him in self-defense while trying to call for help on her cell phone. She managed to escape and the suspect in the attack was arrested in less than 24 hours.

The attack took place on January 22. The pictures show the man trying to grab her by the waist and immobilize her. She fights back, sometimes jumping between machines in the gym, and after a few minutes of physical confrontation, manages to flee the room.

“While this was happening, I wasn’t afraid,” Alma told CBS, the BBC’s American partner.

“Actually, I’m a bodybuilder, so I have a lot of strength,” he added.

“In my opinion, he was just like me,” she said, referring to her attacker.

“I didn’t see him as bigger or less. I knew I was stronger than him and that I could stand up for myself.”

“My advice would be: ‘Never give up,’” the young woman confirmed. “My parents always told me not to give up on anything in life and that was something I kept in mind and I struggled with that.”

“If you don’t give up and fight, you are showing that you are strong, that you can fight and survive and get out of this situation.”

“The more you resist, the less they fight. They want you to give up, stop.”

Alma said that as she was struggling with her attacker, she thought, “If I keep fighting, he’ll let me go.”

“And at the end of the video, you can see how tired he is,” Nashali Alma recalled.
