Stellantis and SENAI’s A3 program for Rota 2030 are working on an electric retrofit project to convert new and used light commercial vehicles with an internal combustion engine to drive using an electric powertrain.

The project also has a partnership with Weg and Violetek. The proposal is to offer an innovative solution for sustainable mobility with zero emissions and quality assurance in converting vehicles as original factory equipment, ensuring safety, durability and approval.

Conversion begins in 2022, including utility models Fiat Fiorino and Peugeot Partner Rapid. At the current stage of the development programme, the combustion powertrain is removed and the conversion kit and battery pack installed, which are placed in the cargo bay to avoid body adaptation.

The tests of these cars will be on public roads to determine the main technical and economic factors related to the local components of the vehicles. For this purpose, data will be collected to better understand the usage and adjust the parameters, if necessary.

The proposal aims to provide accessible electric vehicles, targeting professionals with an average daily urban use of 100 km. The facilities will be available from April to selected B2B customers.

    sustainable mobility

“Stellantis is racing to build a sustainable and profitable business that promotes a circular economy in the markets in which we operate. This methodology is another step towards delivering sustainable and accessible mobility, which is Our priority.

He added, “Currently, this initiative is only being developed in commercial vehicle fleets, but the goal is to expand to other models, in order to serve all audiences in the next stages.”

    Similar project in Europe

The innovations that make up the circular economy extend well beyond Brazil. In Europe, Stellantis has teamed up with Qinomic, a high-tech company that specializes in innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, with the goal of addressing customers’ needs to extend the life of their vehicles and continue doing business while reaching low-emission zones. The successful completion of this co-development in 2023 and positive customer feedback on the performance of the concept cars will lead to implementation and commercialization from 2024, first in France and then throughout Europe.
