TAAG Angola Airlines issued a statement on Thursday, December 22nd, providing information to customers and the public about the situation on board Flight DT-650 that took place on Monday, December 19th.
The route from Luanda, in Angola, to Lisbon, in Portugal, was operated by the Portuguese company HiFly, on TAAG service, with an Airbus A340-300, registration number 9H-TQY, and the overheated situation inside the aircraft and black out of illumination.
As a customer, TAAG immediately asked service provider Hifly to file a report, and an investigation was opened, which included interviews with crew and maintenance engineers, as well as a thorough examination of the equipment.
The conclusion of the report received was clear in stating that the cause of the situation was not related to the aircraft, nor to the actions of the flight crew.
According to TAAG, it is important to make clear to the public that the root cause of this situation is related to a failure of the descent system at Lisbon Airport, which was malfunctioning and unable to guarantee power supply to the aircraft set for landing with instructions for the pilots to disable the engines and auxiliary power unit (APU).
It was necessary to request the intervention of ANA (the entity in charge of managing
Lisbon Airport) for repair work, during which time the cabin temperature rose due to a power outage. Only after maintenance work had been carried out, it was possible to start disembarking passengers.
During this process, passengers were informed of the incident and reassured of their safety on board, the company explains.
TAAG reiterates that it regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers on that flight and is in constant contact with the authorities in order to assess additional measures and future contingency plans.
