According to the study, the values will be boosted by new television rights contracts for the NFL in the United States and the Indian Premier Cricket League (IPL), the largest on the planet.
The total value of media rights to all sports properties grew 1.1% globally to $54.45 billion in 2021.
Forecasts are for a slight 0.3% increase in values to $55.24 billion. For 2024, this amount is expected to jump 10.2% to $60.9 billion.
In the case of the NFL, in early 2021, the NFL closed five domestic rights contracts with NBC Sports, ViacomCBS, Fox Sports, ESPN and Amazon, from 2023 to 2033.
Among markets, the United States ranks first in the world for sports rights with a value of $24.85 billion in 2022.
The United Kingdom ranked second, generating US$4.75 billion in 2022.
Among sports, at 24.8%, golf has the highest growth in global media rights value, reaching $1.32 billion in 2022. Overall, football remains a clear leader at $21.85 billion.
