A cat has just been named the oldest living cat in the world by Guinness World Records. Flossie, who entered the record books at the age of 26 years, 329 days, was described by her current owner as cheerful and inquisitive, although she had already gone deaf due to her advanced age.

The cat was born in 1995, and has lived in different homes throughout her life. According to the world record-holding organization, Flossie began her journey living with a hospital worker in Merseyside, England, whom he adopted when he saw her and other stray cats near the health unit.

Ten years later, the first teacher died, and the cat was taken in by his sister. But after 14 years, the woman also died, and Flossie needed a new home. She is taken in, again, by the family member who initially adopted her.

For three years, the cat had a permanent home, but was put up for adoption at an animal shelter when the owner felt he could no longer take care of her, due to Flossie’s advanced age.

At that time, current teacher Vicki Green met the cat and decided to adopt it, as she had experience with elderly animals. Since then, the woman has shown so much love and affection for me to speak of as Flossie.

“If I’m doing well when I’m her age, with someone who does what’s best for me when I need it most, I’ll be a very happy lady,” Vicki Green told Guinness.

The title of the oldest cat that ever lived belongs to Creme Puff, a cat from the US state of Texas, who lived a long life of more than 38 years.
