A chimpanzee that escaped from a zoo in Kharkiv, Ukraine, has been “recovered” after being given a coat and “riding a bicycle” from zoo staff yesterday morning. The moment was captured on video and shared on social media.
According to international media, the animal named Chichi arrived at the local zoo after being evacuated from the Feldman Environmental Park, which was bombed after the Russian invasion.
Zoo officials said the animal initially refused to return with them and wandered the streets around the zoo, but after heavy rain, it accepted a coat presented by an employee and returned to the zoo.
In the video posted on social media, it is possible to see the animal hugging a staff member and returning to the zoo on a bicycle.
In an interview with the local Suspilne channel, the director of the zoo Oleksiy Hryhoriev said that the animal returned to the shelter without any injuries and is fine.
Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine and a number of buildings were destroyed by Russian bombing over the months of the invasion.
Although attacks have decreased in recent months, at least four civilians were killed in the area after a missile hit the center last week.
