Warner Bros. Discovery has bought 50% of British pay-TV company BT Sport. The federation will create a new joint sports project in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

DAZN tried to hack the deal, but it was unsuccessful. The amounts have not been disclosed, but it is expected to be around £540 million.

The first president of the new joint venture will be Mark Allera, general manager of BT’s consumer division. Andrew Giorgio, president and general manager of sport at Warner Bros. Discovery Europe, will be a member of the board of directors and director of the business.

“Today is the first day of an exciting new chapter for BT Sport. I am so proud of the teams, brand and broadcaster that BT Sport has become, and look forward to working with Warner Bros. Discover the creation of a new sports TV show for the UK,” said Mark Allera.

“Today marks the beginning of our journey to build a new sporting destination for fans in the UK and Ireland,” added Giorgio.

The new media company will already be born with a long list of broadcast rights such as Olympic Games, Champions League, European League, Premier League, cycling Grand Tours, Tennis Grand Slams, Premiership Rugby, MotoGP, UFC and WWE.
