The Bem Maior Movement (MBM), a social organization promoting strategic philanthropy in Brazil, held the second edition of Legado, a series of meetings aimed at promoting philanthropy to build a more inclusive community, on the last day of Expert XP 2022 XP event Investimentos.
MBM Managing Director Richard Sibley spoke to an attentive audience on the direction the economy is heading. Along with Banco XP CEO, José Berenguer, founder of Rede Gerando Falcões, Edu Lyra, MBM co-founder and head of MRV Engenharia, Rubens Menen, warned Sibley about the current reality: One in three Brazilians, lives with an income of less than 500 Brazilian reals per month, and that 15% of the population, 33 million Brazilians, do not have enough to eat

The co-founder of the Pim Mayor movement, Rubens Minnen, reiterated Beringer’s discourse that civil society needs to consider its responsibilities and the potential to promote change. “It is still difficult to educate people about how society needs to take a leadership role in order to bring about changes. I understand that change can come from examples. We need to show what is being done through philanthropy. Let’s not wait for the government alone to solve this problems. We need to take our responsibility,” Minin defended.
At the end of the session, Edu Lyra, of Rede Gerando Falcões, spoke about the need for awareness. “Brazilian social indicators have fallen 10, 20, 30 years. In the past decade there were 7 thousand slums, and today there are more than 14 thousand, or 16 million Brazilians living in these locations. We need to turn the elite into partners, so that people understand their peers In conditions of extreme poverty. There is a tide rising against us, but we have privileges and the realization that the ability to act can change the reality of others,” reinforces Lyra.
