After six years of observation, the first “sleeping” black hole has been found outside the Milky Way. The information is contained in a study published in the scientific journal natural astronomy. It is the phenomenon of stellar mass nine times larger than the sun, and it revolves in its orbit Magellanic Cloud, a dwarf galaxy close to our own.

Dr. wrote. Pablo Marchant, co-author of the study, found in the paper.

According to scientists, the discovery was like finding a “needle in a haystack”, since “sleeping” black holes are difficult to detect, because they do not interact with their environment.

This phenomenon was launched on Monday the 18th, and was observed by the Very Large Telescope of Southern European Observatory, In Germany. The team of researchers responsible for the discovery is called the Black Hole Police, which surveyed nearly a thousand stars in the Tarantula Nebula in the constellation of Dorado before locating them.

Black holes are the “cemetery” of dead stars. They measure between five and 50 times the mass of the Sun. To see it, scientists notice orbs orbiting the holes before swallowing them. The black hole is They are classified as “dormant” when they do not feed on the objects around them, and do not emit light or radiation.
