Lisbon, Portugal – American actor Jason Momoa, who immortalized in the cinema the superhero Aquaman, on Sunday (06/26) made an emotional appeal to young people to protect the oceans, which is fundamental to the balance of the planet’s climate. He participated in a meeting with 150 young people on the beach of Carcavelos, 25 kilometers from Lisbon, in the pre-opening of the UN-promoted Ocean Conference, which begins on Monday (27/06) and runs until July 1st. .

“We are committed to protecting the oceans, where water begins and ends its journey,” he said during the Youth and Innovation Forum. Now is the time to act to right the wrongs of the past. “We have to stop the time of irresponsibility,” he added. “Our oceans have problems. We combine ambition with dedication and hopefully we can change the outcome,” he added.

Momoa received the Nature Stick, as part of the conference, from United Nations Special Envoy for Oceans, Peter Thompson. The actor stated, “This feat has already traveled the world and will continue his journey as an enduring symbol of leaders.” He pledged, “with respect, admiration and humility, to join the United Nations family, and to do “the crucial work of managing, protecting and conserving the ocean and all living things.”

The representative will participate in the conference, the main discussions of which will take place in the Arena Altice, in the Parque das Nações. The oceans, as the United Nations has highlighted, are the largest ecosystems on the planet, providing livelihoods for billions of people. But all this wealth is at risk. The oceans are at great risk, as they have become large dumps for waste, especially plastic.
