The United States on Thursday denied giving Ukrainian forces information about killing Russian generals near the front lines, The New York Times reported.

Defense Department spokesman John Kirby said it was true that the United States was providing Kyiv with intelligence agents “to help the Ukrainians defend their country.” “We do not provide information on the locations of military commands on the battlefield, nor do we participate in targeting decisions made by the Ukrainian army,” he said.

Yesterday, the New York Times reported that the information provided by the United States to the Ukrainian army made it possible to locate the Russian generals at the front, citing anonymous US intelligence sources.

The newspaper said that “several” of the Russian generals killed by Ukrainian forces had been located with the help of US intelligence, citing military commandos.

The US National Security Council had earlier called the claim “irresponsible” that the United States was helping Ukraine kill Russian generals.

The newspaper reported that Washington’s intelligence efforts to help Ukraine in its fight “focused”, among other things, on “determining the location and other details about the mobile headquarters of the Russian army, which move regularly.”
