The minister also blamed the president’s party for the censorship attempt.

According to him, his decision to fine the event for the anti-Bolsonaro demonstrations was made “based on the understanding that the organization of the event promoted ostensible political propaganda encouraging artists” to express themselves politically – which was not true.

Araujo had come to this conclusion because the “representative,” i.e. the PL, implied in his request for censorship that the organization of Lollapalooza “supposedly was encouraging outward and outward electoral propaganda at the aforementioned event.”

In his letter, the minister emphasized that “artists, individually,” “are guaranteed by the federal constitution broad freedom of expression.”
