The Efe Agency, along with a spokesperson for the organization, discovered that the first reports of the refereeing team that will work on the match, scheduled for the Neo Química Arena, in São Paulo, which played only five minutes, had already been received.
According to the source consulted, FIFA’s disciplinary bodies will “analyze the information contained in the reports in order to take the appropriate decision in a timely manner.”
The match between Brazil and Argentina, scheduled to take place at the Neo Química Arena, was suspended on Sunday due to a health breach related to protocols to combat the Covid-19 pandemic committed by four players from the visiting team.
The source confirmed that “FIFA regrets the scenes that preceded the suspension of the Brazil-Argentina match, which deprived millions of fans of this duel in which the teams of countries with the largest footballing weight in the world participated.”
The decision to suspend the match came after the Argentine national team decided to withdraw from the stadium, as inspectors from the National Health Monitoring Agency (Anvisa) stormed the stadium in search of the four players who gave false information to immigration when entering Brazil.
Agency staff entered the stadium only five minutes into the first half, when the score was 0-0.
The athletes involved are goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, defender Cristian Romero and midfielders Emiliano Buendia and Giovanni Lo Celso, who play in English football and, having played for their teams, joined the Argentine national team.
The four players were in Argentina’s 3-1 win over Venezuela in Caracas, last Thursday, and traveled from the Venezuelan capital with the entire delegation to Sao Paulo.
