    World’s longest submarine cable laid; See how much it measures

    The testing and installation of 1,400 km of interconnected submarine and land power cables connecting the UK to Denmark has been completed.

    What you need to know:

    • Viking Link is a joint venture, ie a multi-company investment between the United Kingdom’s National Grid and Denmark’s Energinet;
    • The cable also passes through Holland and Germany;
    • The project will cost 1.7 billion pounds, about R$10.6 billion at current prices;
    • In total, the submarine line has 1,250 kilometers of cables and 135 kilometers of land cables. Ocean energy.
    • The cables were manufactured by Italy-based global power cases and solutions company Prysmian, which announced this week that it will complete the installation;

    The Viking connection is expected to be operational by the end of this year. Once operational, 1.4 gigawatts (GW) of clean energy could be sent between the countries, powering around 1.4 million UK homes.

    This important milestone confirms Brysmian’s reliability in executing complex, off-the-shelf projects.
