Many Brazilians dream of having more than one day off per week, now imagine having only 4 working days?
In recent years, the concept of a short four-day work week has gained increasing attention around the world.
This model proposes a new way of organizing working time, promising to maintain or even increase employee productivity, while providing more free time for entertainment and rest.
Based on successful international experiences, Brazil is preparing for a new round of testing of this reduced flight, scheduled to take place between January and June 2025.
The initiative is coordinated by specialized organizations, which try to evaluate the productivity of employees in this process, as well as the well-being of employees.
How does the 4-day work week proposal work?
The proposal for a four-day work week, known as the 100-80-100 model, is relatively simple: Employees continue to receive 100% of their salary, work 80% of the time, but maintain 100% productivity.
In practical terms, this means that employees work only four days a week, but without any reduction in pay.
The idea behind this model is that with a reduced workload, employees will have more time to rest, which will lead to increased focus and efficiency during their workdays.
In Brazil, the adoption of this model has been led by initiatives such as the 4 Day Week organization, which, in partnership with national companies, provides support and training to implement the model in various sectors.

The first tests performed well.
The first tests conducted in Brazil with a reduced working week have shown promising results.
In June 2024, the first phase of the trial was completed, with 19 companies completing the test to the end.
To give you an idea, among these companies, 84.6% of leaders recommended reducing weekly work hours, citing significant benefits in terms of productivity and employee engagement.
Additionally, 48.2% of respondents reported an increase in work pace, while 71.5% saw an improvement in productivity. These results suggest that the four-day week can not only maintain but also improve efficiency in companies.
Another top issue is talent retention, with 40.4% of workers saying they would need a pay increase of more than 50% to consider returning to a five-day shift.

Can more companies participate in the 4-day work experience?
With the success of the first tests, more Brazilian companies have the opportunity to join the second round of the experiment.
The new phase of the project is open to all interested companies, regardless of their size or number of employees.
To participate, companies must register on the project’s official website (https://www.4dayweekbrazil.com/) and will undergo a period of orientation and training, which will take place between October and December 2024.
During this preparatory phase, companies will receive guidance on how to effectively implement the 100-80-100 model, and adapt it to their specific needs.
From January 2025, companies that complete the training will be able to start working on a reduced working week, with ongoing support from the project team.
