Stagecoach, the transport and infrastructure group, is considered the UK’s largest bus operator.
The company, through its unit in Scotland, has ordered 25 Volvo BZL electric buses of 10.8m, single deck.
Vehicles will operate in Ayrshire, the administrative region of the country.
The BZL platform will be launched in late 2021, and the vehicles for Stagecoach will be assembled by MCV Bus and Coach, an Egyptian coachbuilder founded in 2002.
This is Stagecoach West Scotland’s first order for Volvo’s new UK model.
Stagecoach has six Volvo 7900 electric buses parked at its depot in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. These initial vehicles brought the company’s experience in delivering Volvo’s electric buses before the order was placed with BZL Electric.
Volvo Buses has teamed up with MCV to develop the bodywork for the new BZL electric platform, specifically suited for UK fleets.
The buses come in single- and double-decker variants, with vehicle lengths ranging from 9.7m to 12.9m, and low-entry or full-low-floor options.
