The announcement of the air opening comes after the official restoration of bilateral relations between Venezuela and Brazil with the opening of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) as President of Brazil. “Margarita is a destination that has been the subject of significant developments in the aeronautical sector, and in the first quarter of this year, we are even planning to connect Brazil with Margarita,” the minister commented in a telephone interview with state broadcaster “Venezuela de Televín” (VTV), said Velazquez.

The minister stressed that these new destinations will allow Venezuela to boost the tourism sector, in order to “guarantee” the growth of the country’s “non-oil economy”. Regarding local connections, he announced that, during the first three months of the year, Conviasa will operate flights from the country’s capital to the states of Mérida (northwest) and Aburi (west, on the border with Colombia).
