    Investing.com – United Kingdom equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the , and , and sectors propelled shares lower.

    At the London close, the index fell 0.54%.

    The best performers of the session on the index came from stocks Compass panel PLC (LON: ), which rose 1.73%, corresponding to 38.00 points, ended the session trading at 2.00. Meanwhile, stocks Pearson PLC (LON:) added 1.63% or 15.40 points to end the day at 961.80 while Diploma PLC (LON:) was up 1.20% or 50.00 points to settle at 4.00.

    The worst performers of the session were stocks Fresnillo PLC (LON: ), which declined 5.73% or 34.00 points to trade at 559.00 at the close. Prudential plc (LON: ) declined 4.01% or 30.60 points to 731.60, and Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON: ) traded down 3.71% or 86.00 points to end at 2.00.

    Declining stocks outnumbered advancing stocks on the London Stock Exchange by 1062 to 735, while 716 ended unchanged.

    Gold futures for August delivery fell 2.74%, or 65.60, to $2.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere, crude for delivery in July fell 0.17%, or 0.13, to $75.42 a barrel, while Brent crude for delivery in August fell 0.38%, or 0.30, to $79.57 a barrel.

    GBP/USD was down 0.50% to 1.27 and EUR/GBP was down 0.23% to 0.85.

    Dollar index futures were down 0.75% at 104.83.
