    Investing.com – United Kingdom equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the , and , and sectors propelled shares lower.

    At the end of London, the index fell 0.20%, hitting a new record low in 1 month.

    The best performers of the session on the index came from shares of BT Group plc (LON: ), which rose 3.37% or 4.55 points to trade at 139.55 at the close of trade. Meanwhile, stocks Tesco PLC ( LON: ) added 2.55% or 7.70 points to trade at 310.20 at the end of the day, and Sage group PLC (LON: ), which advanced 2.47% or 25.50 points to settle at 1.00.

    The worst performers of the session were stocks Burberry Group plc (LON: ), which declined 4.23% or 43.30 points to trade at 980.20 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC ( LON: ) declined 4.21% or 26.40 points to 600.60 and BAE Systems PLC ( LON: ) declined 3.47% or 48.00 points to 1.00.

    Declining stocks outnumbered advancing stocks by 1205 to 574 on the London Stock Exchange, while 716 ended unchanged.

    BT Group plc (LON: ) shares hit 52-week high; 3.37% or 4.55 up to 139.55. Burberry Group plc (LON: ) shares fall to 5-year low; 4.23% or 43.30 down to 980.20.

    Gold futures for August delivery rose 1.21%, or 27.95, to $2.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere, crude for delivery in July fell 0.08%, or 0.06, to $78.56 a barrel, while Brent crude for delivery in August fell 0.03% to $82.72 a barrel.

    GBP/USD fell 0.63% to 1.27 and EUR/GBP was down 0.27% to 0.84.

    The dollar futures index was down 0.02% at 105.21.
