London, December 29 (EFE). – The United Kingdom has recorded more than 183,037 cases of the new coronavirus, a record number since the beginning of the epidemic, according to information released on Wednesday by the local health ministry.

According to the bulletin presented today, there was a 41.4% increase in the amount of positives compared to seven days ago.

In addition, more than 57 deaths were reported in the past 24 hours as a result of covid-19, which is a 34.1% increase compared to last Wednesday.

In the UK, there is still a 41.4% increase in the number of hospital admissions for Covid-19 patients.

According to data from the UK Department of Health, 82.3% of the population over the age of 12 has a full vaccination program against COVID-19. Already 57.5% received the booster dose.

Today, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson admitted that the omicron variant still causes “real problems” in hospitals, but he does not intend to adopt new restrictions in England, a more densely populated region, where masks are mandatory on public transport and indoors.

In addition, proof of vaccination is mandatory for access to events with a large audience.

The autonomous governments of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, in turn, have limited the number of people who can gather on New Year’s Eve and put in place social distancing measures in public spaces during festivities. EFE
