UK announces support for Rio Grande do Sul after floods

Minister for the Americas, Caribbean and Overseas Territories of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs From England, David Rutley, during his official visit to Brazil, declared his support for the British Rio Grande do Sul Following recent floods that devastated the area. In a meeting with Gaucho officials, Routley mourned the loss of life and expressed support measures.
To formalize British support, Rutley met with Rio Grande do Sul, José Henrique Medeiros Pires and deputy Gaucho Alsu Moreira. The United Kingdom committed more than R$1.2 million in humanitarian aid through the START Fund, a global fund dedicated to humanitarian crises.
In addition to direct funding, the UK has also pledged to collaborate with British companies in Brazil and encourage them to contribute to donation efforts for the flood-affected region. This partnership between the private sector and the British government aims to expand the reach and impact of aid operations.

Another support front Rutley announced is an investment in digital production for Brazil. As a global leader in the responsible use of digital technology in crisis situations, the UK is committed to sharing its expertise in developing early warning systems, using technology for disaster assessment and promoting digital sustainability.

In addition to emergency measures, Rutley highlighted the importance of dialogue and preventive measures to avoid future environmental disasters.

“Brazil is an important partner for the UK and we value its voice and influence on the world stage. During my second ministerial visit to Brazil, I was able to advance our shared priorities of green, inclusive growth and regional cooperation. We look forward to celebrating 200 years of diplomatic relations next year. As such, the friendship between our countries is stronger than ever,” the minister said.
