    According to the minister, the United States is working with Egypt and Qatar to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, so that the hostages can be released.

    So far, the head of US diplomacy has vetoed other truce initiatives, but he believes that this would be a “strong signal” and that the decision would protect civilians on all sides. Brazil submitted one of the texts that was vetoed in October 2023.

    No date has been set for discussion or voting on this initiative yet. Blinken's visit to Saudi Arabia aims to press for a truce in Gaza. He is scheduled to go to Egypt on Thursday the twenty-first and to Israel on Friday the twenty-second.
