    Saab has signed two contracts for 11 Giraffe 1X radars, including support, with the UK Ministry of Defence. The total order value is approximately SEK 264 million and deliveries have already started.

    The Giraffe 1X acquisition is mostly for operational environments, while one unit has been acquired by the Royal Navy and will be integrated and tested. XV Patrick Blackett. The ship is operated by NavyX to test and experiment with new technologies and concepts.

    Giraffe 1X is a lightweight, multi-mission 3D surveillance radar that provides quality air defense target data for simultaneous air and surface surveillance, drone detection (C-UAS) and counter-missiles, artillery and mortar (C-UAS). – RAM) warning within a single solution. The UK has a major installed base of Saab radars with ARTHUR (known as MAMBA in the UK) since 2004, and the largest fleet of ground-based Giraffe AMB radars in service since 2010.

    This new capability for the UK is based on the fact that the Giraffe 1X will be the fastest and most efficient solution available, with proven capability gaining high confidence among Counter-Unmanned Air Systems (C-UAS) experts. These systems include continuous software updates based on Saab’s long-standing knowledge of our customers’ needs and the operational threats faced by their deployed forces. System deliveries have started in Gothenburg, Sweden and the UK and work is underway.

    “These orders are a great example of how our rapidly deployed software-defined systems continue to support our UK customer and further strengthen our close partnership with the UK MoD”said Dean Rosenfield, President of Saab UK.
