The Al-Amal spacecraft, which was sent by the United Arab Emirates on an unprecedented mission, has captured the most detailed images to date from The Northern Lights of Mars. They have a mechanism similar to that seen on Earth: they are the result of the solar wind emanating from the planet’s magnetic fields.

However, they are not northern regions on Mars. The word boreal refers to the North Pole of the Earth. In the case of the neighboring planet, the aurora borealis can be observed in other regions of the globe. Solar wind particles come into contact with oxygen in the atmosphere, causing the glow.

a UAE mission to explore Mars EMM reached Mars in February of this year and began recording its science records on May 23. The Hope spacecraft has a space of 1.35 tons and a cost of $200 million (more than R$1 billion).

Capturing the Martian aurora borealis was not among the master plans, so EMM’s head of science Hessa Al Matrooshi of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center in Dubai told Nature the images were “just a gift”. I mentioned the famous magazine The images, but the researchers have not yet published a scientific study of the new EMM records.

In fact, the mission’s goal is to conduct a complete survey of the Martian atmosphere for the first time, studying daily and seasonal variations. The UAE has ambitious plans: they want to establish a colony on Mars in 2117.
