Doses will not be available immediately. It is expected that this will be at the beginning of February, but there is still no specific date, nor a list of municipalities that will receive the first shipment.
This is because the department has sent the material for quality analysis and is still awaiting release. Only then will it be possible to send to each location.
Children and adolescents between 10 and 14 years old, the age group with the highest number of dengue hospitalizations, will be vaccinated. There were about 16,400 in the period from January 2019 to November 2023. They are only behind the elderly, a group for which the vaccine has not been licensed by Anvisa (the national health surveillance agency).
A shipment of 750,000 Qdenga vaccines, provided by Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda, arrived in Brazil last Saturday. This first batch is part of 1.32 million doses that will be distributed free of charge through the SUS (Unified Health System).
The remaining doses, 5.2 million, will arrive in stages until November, with a total of about 6.4 million, obtained from the pharmaceutical company. The vaccine is administered in two doses, with an interval of 90 days between doses.
Health also contracted for 9 million doses for 2025. The purchase was made under the same contract for the acquisition of immunization agents for this year.
