Although it's based on the comics created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Amazon Prime Video's The Boys series has already made several deviations from the source material. Whether changing narrative lines or introducing new characters, the adaptation also features heroes and villains with very different personalities.

In an interview with diverseSeries creator and showrunner Eric Kripke explained that most of these changes are intentional. He even confirmed that to those who followed the comics We won't see a big reveal in the final season. Beware of spoilers below.

The Boys showrunner didn't like the comic book solution

In the story created by Ennis and Robertson, readers follow the Boys' battle against Homelander over dozens of issues, only to discover that he was not responsible for most of his actions. The main person responsible was Black Noir, a clone of the leader of the Seven who was created to stop him if he got out of control.

According to Kripke, this narrative line will not be explored by the series, although it holds great potential for surprise. “That wasn't satisfactory for me. I say, if I'm going to follow this villain, I want this guy to be the villain. So I never liked the idea of cloning,” he explained.

He also stated that using a clone as the big villain in The Boys might seem “too charming” for the way the series has built its world. “We try to say that superheroes are the only slippery bananas, and that everything else we try to make is as realistic as possible.”

The focus is on maintaining quality

For the presenter, while the Amazon Prime Video production features sci-fi elements, they can't be used as creative crutches. “As I mentioned before, I'm really worried about becoming the person we're trying to parody,” he explained.

Kripke added that his intention was to create stories that truly had significance and meaning, giving his characters reasons to exist. “I hope we maintain our high quality, otherwise we won't do it anymore. We hope we can be the most selective and we can maintain the quality.

“Because it would be a huge disappointment if this was the sold-out show, so I'm going to try, and I'm fighting hard for it.” Currently in its fourth season, The Boys should conclude with its fifth batch of episodes. According to Kripke, This will allow you to develop your narrative lines wellWhile preventing the audience from feeling bored with its characters and stories.
